Score one for the good guys, and in yet another case, a good guy who was armed. Police say an alleged robber pointed a gun at a customer in an Avondale, Arizona, convenience store during an attempted holdup.
The frightening incident took place just after 5 a.m. on Jan. 18 at a Chevron station close to 107th Avenue and Indian School Road.
FOX 10 reported the would-be robber wore a covering on his face but could be heard saying “rob” and “money.” It was then that he reportedly pointed his weapon at a customer and the store clerk.
Unfortunately for the alleged robber, he looked away at another customer. This gave the clerk time to spring into action by pulling his own gun and shooting the suspect.
The attendant told authorities that the scene unfolded quickly. “He pointed his gun at me, said it was a robbery, then he pointed his gun at the other customer I had in the store.”
According to Fox News, the police said, “the suspect became distracted by another person in the store and the store employee took the opportunity to pull out and use his own firearm, shooting and injuring the suspect.”
The alleged robber, who apparently had trouble mumbling the proper words through his mask, was still able to get his point across. Afterwards, the clerk was asked if the words he was able to hear caused him to decide to shoot to protect himself and the customers.
The clerk, who was only identified as Ryan, responded, “In all reality, he didn’t need to say anything. The moment he pointed the gun at me, it was pretty obvious what he was there for.” He added “I’m not happy I had to shoot him, but I’m not stressing. The moment he pulled the gun on me he set the situation and I just followed it. He made the situation what it was.”
The suspect, who has yet to be identified by law enforcement, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. No other injuries were reported. Police were able to retrieve surveillance footage from inside the business and are currently reviewing the video for evidence.
Officials report that the clerk does not face charges currently.
These situations are played out repeatedly across the country, yet they are largely ignored by the mainstream media and self-serving politicians. Citizens exercising their Second Amendment rights are called on to defend themselves and others through courageous actions, and many times it’s actual lives that are saved.
The Arizona store clerk had only a moment to decide whether to be a victim, and the life of his customer may very well have been in his hands during the attempted holdup.
The man made the right choice, and he was absolutely correct in noting the alleged robber “made the situation what it was.” Walking into a convenience store and threatening both the employee and customer by allegedly pointing a firearm at them created the high stakes, and the results could have been tragic.
Instead, a firearm was used to end the threat. No amount of misguided gun control is going to disarm the criminal element that is already breaking the law. Instead, it only serves to strip the ability to defend oneself from law-abiding citizens.
Then, of course, there’s the Second Amendment. The right to keep and bear arms is guaranteed in plain language for all to see. And in this Arizona case and so many more like it, that properly exercised right saved a bad situation from getting infinitely worse.
