The folks at H&K hated me so much and thought I sucked so bad , they sent me their H&K MR762A1 rifle to hopefully add some value to my life. I decided to take out a line of credit and buy a few rounds of 762×51, and get an initial impression about this thing.
If the uninspiring name doesn’t already give it away, this rifle is chambered in 762×51. I confirmed with H&K that you can run 308 through it with no problem.
The first thing I noticed about the rifle when I shot it was the recoil. There is a lot more punch than the 556, obviously, but it’s like the recoil in a 45, smooth and straight back. Here’s the thing about this rifle, the stock is something kind of awesome. You can tell the stock is eating a lot of the recoil before it hits your shoulder, and that makes for a real buttery recoil impulse.
The trigger wasn’t bad; I need some more time behind the gun to really dial in the feeling of the trigger.
The proprietary magazine for this thing is laughably expensive, but cool as hell. The sites were nothing short of awesome and the weight is notably heavier, but its a quality weight. With no optics and fancy accessories, the rifle is balanced really well, so the weight is kind of sexy, much like the new Jill Scott.
I really look forward to running this gun so I can get a better feel for its personality. Now, I have to figure out which organs I can sell to science to buy some ammo.
