The latest inspiring incident involving a good guy with a gun turned out not to be a guy, and she is a courageous woman.
According to Philadelphia police, she returned to her Germantown apartment at around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning to discover a shock. Four unknown men had allegedly broken into her home, and a confrontation with the resident ensued.
The would-be victim was armed and came out firing. In the melee she managed to shoot two of the four suspects, and the home invaders then fled.
Responding officers found the woman standing in the street when they arrived with one of the suspects on the ground nearby. Imagine the conversation that may have been ongoing by the time law enforcement arrived between the wounded suspect and the resident.
The man, identified as 48-year-old Jermaine Parker, was wounded in his right leg and right arm. He was treated at the scene and then transported to Einstein Medical Center.
The second wounded man did not make it much further, and police found him a few blocks away. Identified as 45-year-old Randy Miller, he suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was also transported to Einstein Medical Center.
He is currently listed in stable but critical condition.
Both wounded suspects were arrested by Philadelphia police and face burglary and other charges. Officials have not released possible identities of the other two suspects, and it is not confirmed whether they were also injured by the resident.
Investigators declared the obvious — both men were shot in self-defense by the resident. She was wisely prepared, and stumbling on four strange men in her apartment in the early morning hours last weekend may have ended far differently if she weren’t. She is to be commended for being ready and having the courage to confront the situation.
