Crime doesn’t pay, and many times it offers a painful lesson to those who chose to engage in it.
The economics of burglary are not good when considering the potential for time behind bars along with even worse outcomes.
As many areas of the nation attempt to reel in lawlessness, the already large segment of the American public that is armed and ready to protect life and property is getting even more populated. Gun sales continue to be high as law-abiding citizens make the conscious choice to be their own first responders.
This was the case with a confrontation at an Oklahoma apartment complex early Monday morning that resulted in a suspect being taught the hard way.
The unfortunate event reportedly began with an attempted burglary. But the resident flipped the script and confronted the suspect, resulting in an argument that spilled over into a field beside the building.
This showdown apparently became more heated, and as the burglary suspect attempted to flee he was shot in the left buttock. Such damage to the largest muscle in the body is painful, but he will survive.
This cringe-worthy injury led to hospitalization for the alleged burglar.
Authorities were notified by an emergency call at roughly 3:30 a.m. The caller told law enforcement that he’d caught a person stealing at the apartment complex.
He explained that the suspect was trying to get inside his storage shed and had witnessed him attempting to open car doors. The good citizen’s quick action stopped the apparent burglary attempt, and at last report there were no charges against the shooter.
The suspect faces a mountain of legal trouble and will almost certainly be incarcerated — at least for a short period of time. And if he is smart, he will accept the excruciating and embarrassing injury and learn from it.
It may ultimately serve as a sore reminder that being a criminal is a dangerous business, and he was fortunate that his injury was not much more severe.
