The story seemed familiar. Two young men reportedly approached a middle-aged man and an argument ensued with the two young suspects firing multiple shots at the “victim.”

Only, the actual events turned out to be quite the opposite.

On Saturday, San Antonio police responded to a call of shots fired on the city’s South side. When officers arrived on the scene at about 1:30 p.m., they first interviewed the alleged victim.

The 55-year-old man told a harrowing tale of being approached by two young men who acted aggressively. A 26-year-old suspect and his companion allegedly approached the older man and fired shots.

The accuser was unharmed. The police found evidence in the form of spent shell casings at the location, and the firearm that was discharged was recovered. The two young suspects were arrested a short distance away after being identified by the “victim.”

Then, to their credit, the San Antonio officers dug deeper and discovered the truth.

It turned out that the older man was in fact the aggressor. Investigators now believe that he was unprovoked when he approached the pair armed with a crowbar. As the 55-year-old reportedly attacked the two, one produced a firearm and fired multiple shots in his direction.

As a crowbar is unquestionably a deadly weapon and it was determined the two younger men were the real victims, their reaction was ruled self-defense by authorities.

The 55-year-old attacker was not taken into custody initially, and there is no word on if he has since been arrested.

As it turned out, the armed young men acted legally and appropriately in the face of a violent attack. It is noteworthy that what appeared to be the facts of the case were not taken at face value.

Instead, law enforcement uncovered that a gun yet again was used to ward off a criminal. Even when it initially appeared otherwise, it turned out to be another case of a good guy with a gun defending themselves and others.
