Nothing is apparently too bizarre to be true in 2024, and the latest example of a good citizen defending themselves with a firearm definitely featured a twist.

Authorities in Louisville, Kentucky, arrested a man suffering gunshot wounds after he allegedly attempted to carjack an innocent victim. And in the process, police believe Jason Calhoun tried to remove one of that man’s eyeballs.

Officials responded to a call of an injury accident and found Calhoun in his car suffering from gunshot wounds. During this time, they were notified of a possible carjacking on I-65 and quickly determined the two emergencies were related.

The investigation revealed that the man who was the alleged target of the carjacking attempt had broken down along the interstate. He left and brought his wife’s vehicle back to the scene.

Upon arrival, he discovered Calhoun walking near his inoperable car. The intended victim told authorities that while he was sitting in the driver’s seat, Calhoun swung the door open and demanded that he give up the vehicle.

The alleged attacker then spotted the gun that was wedged between the driver’s seat and console and tried to grab it. This was when the victim was able to grasp the firearm, and Calhoun allegedly began to kick him at that point.

Then the frightening encounter truly went off the rails.

The victim said that Calhoun demanded that he “give me your eyeball” and began to attack his face and left eye socket. He reported that the roadside attacker attempted to push his finger into his eye.

As he was grabbed in a headlock, the victim said he was finally able to get control of the weapon and fire several shots.

That ended the attack.

Calhoun faces an array of charges including attempted murder, strangulation and robbery. It is inconceivable that his alleged victim will encounter legal repercussions for almost certainly saving his own life.

The Second Amendment rides to the rescue yet again. It is quite easy to envision a far different outcome to this attack without the presence of a firearm, and the victim will be eternally grateful that he was prepared.
