Unfortunately, armed intrusions of U.S. households are a daily occurrence. This leads to the necessity to take proper precautions to protect loved ones and property, and for many Americans that includes exercising their Second Amendment rights to be armed.

It is not a regular event, however, to encounter a stranger who openly declares their allegiance to Satan.

That was apparently the case last week in Taylor, Texas, when an alleged intruder identified as Austin Sumpter was shot by a homeowner. The suspect entered the residence armed with a knife with the inscription “Hail Satan.”

Shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Monday, an alarmed citizen called 911 to report a possible home invasion. As law enforcement responded to the scene, investigators believe Sumpter was able to enter the home.

The homeowner, fortunately for himself and any others present, was ready to step up and defend his residence. He told police that he confronted Sumpter and then shot him in the hip.

Arriving officers found the suspect down on the front porch next to the large knife with the unique inscription. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of his gunshot wound before being released into police custody.

Sumpter was immediately charged with Burglary of a Habitation with Commission of a Felony.

Thankfully, there were no injuries to the homeowner or any others reported. The audacity displayed by breaking into a stranger’s home brandishing such a weapon clearly indicated that the suspect was ready to harm anyone who got in his way.

But the intended victim was armed and prepared and exercised their Second Amendment rights for the good of themselves and society as a whole. The right to keep and bear arms once again came through to defend the innocent, and this is yet another example of the importance of being ready for the unexpected.
