The odds do not favor a good citizen who encounters three alleged intruders. That is, unless that person is armed and prepared, and then that situation turns solidly in their favor.

This was the alarming case in the middle of the afternoon on Monday at a Los Angeles home. It was roughly 3:00 p.m. when the homeowner discovered three masked individuals allegedly attempting to break into his residence, and in some instances, he would have been a helpless victim.

Fortunately for the good guy, that was not the case.

Instead, the resident was able to quickly retrieve a weapon and shoot one of his alleged attackers. That message quickly spread to his accomplices, who then fled the scene.

Emergency services were called, and responding officers arrived to find a 25-year-old suspect critically injured. He was described as “conscious and breathing” and was transported to a nearby hospital.

A manhunt for the other suspects ensued, though there is no word if they remain at large.

Despite — or because of — having the most oppressive gun control laws in the nation, California is beset with violent crime. Still, it has residents who are able to jump through all the administrative hoops and make it through the ridiculous steps to legal gun ownership.

Thankfully, in this case and many others, the intended victim did not play along with the script and was able to defend themselves from harm.

Instead, it was the alleged perpetrators who were forced to flee for their lives, a distinct possibility when attempting to force entry into another person’s home.

Gun control does not keep weapons out of the hands of the bad guys. It only makes it more difficult for law-abiding citizens to exercise their Second Amendment rights and protect themselves from those who would cause them harm.

They say the first step to solving a problem is admitting there is one.
