Three alleged burglars armed with pepper spray got in over their heads when they reportedly attempted to rob a California tobacco store owner, and one paid for it with his life.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the deadly encounter began around 9 a.m. Tuesday morning. Officials identified the intended victims only as Andy and Sam and said they encountered the suspects when they arrived at the business.

One of the three men allegedly attempted to break into Andy’s vehicle, which was carrying inventory for the shop. In the ensuing confrontation, a suspect is believed to have pepper sprayed Andy. Sam told investigators that the car window was shattered, and his partner was hit with the chemical substance.

He further noted the frequency of these violent attacks on their business. “We’ve been getting a lot of things like this, last year like four or five times. We are sick and tired, they come with a gun to rob us.”

This violent act led to the victim producing a firearm and shooting at the alleged assailants. One was struck, and all three suspects fled the scene on foot when they found their getaway vehicle was blocked in.

The alleged attacker struck by the bullet was found in a nearby alley and taken to the hospital. Doctors were unable to save his life, and his identity has not been released.

Law enforcement then set up a perimeter and apprehended the other two suspects in a residential area.

It is increasingly a fatal mistake for the criminal element to assume that their intended victims will quietly go along with their schemes. In cities across the nation, the good people are exercising their Second Amendment right to self-defense and fighting back against becoming yet another statistic.
