A new organization opposing gun rights is now active, and it seeks to influence state legislatures to change firearm laws. Apparently, the previous roster of shrill, attention-seeking alarmists who wanted to suppress constitutional rights was not enough.

Calling itself Legislators for Safer Communities, the group is comprised of 171 state-level lawmakers hailing from 43 states.

Everytown for Gun Safety heralded its mission as a “hub for collaboration, partnership, shared resources, strategy, research and peer networking.”

The roster of supporters of the new gun control lobby reads like a who’s who of organizations opposed to Second Amendment rights. They include Brady, Community Justice, Everytown, GIFFORDS and March for Our Lives.

The new group claims that “gun violence is a public health issue with complex roots in systemic inequalities.” It proposes to address this situation with “equity and justice.”

Of course, the “public health” angle is one pursued by national politicians in an effort to work around the pesky Second Amendment and strip gun rights away from law-abiding citizens.

Anything except blaming violent perpetrators for their actions.

Supporters believe Legislators for Safer Communities will bypass the national standoff in a divided Congress and bring change at the state level. The group asserts that it is independent and nonpartisan, though its funding source is not listed in the announcement of its formation.

Brady senior counsel and senior policy director Tanya Schardt lauded the effort to eradicate gun rights at a time when Congress is at an impasse.

She declared, “When Congress is gridlocked, we have watched state legislators across the country who understand that gun violence is preventable work relentlessly in their statehouses to keep their communities safe from gun violence.”

Federal courts are increasingly overturning these state-level efforts lauded by national organizations. The Constitution and Supreme Court decisions are not negotiable and may not be nullified due to the whims of state lawmakers.
