An alleged intruder challenged a Missouri homeowner early Tuesday morning by telling his intended victim, “You’ll have to shoot me, [expletive].”

The Hanley Hills homeowner promptly complied with his wishes.

According to St. Louis County authorities, an attempted home invasion unfolded at a Bloom Drive residence. The adult couple was awakened by a man identified as 38-year-old Cedric Marshall.

He was standing by their bed naked from the waist down.

Investigators believe Marshall confronted the couple, who were home with their two minor children, during the commission of a burglary. Fortunately for the family, one of the adults had a loaded firearm readily available and quickly pointed it at the suspect.

That’s when Marshall reportedly challenged the intended victim to shoot him. He was subsequently shot once in the chest.

The couple reported that the intruder collapsed to the floor upon being shot and begged them not to fire again. Marshall was told to leave the house, and responding officers arrived to find him on the ground in the backyard.

The investigation revealed that Marshall had a previous conviction for unlawful use of a weapon. He now faces new charges of first-degree burglary and fourth-degree assault after he recovers from the gunshot wound he asked for.

His bond was set at $250,000.

Police reported that evidence collected at the scene backed up the family’s account of events. No charges against the defender were reported, and it is highly doubtful that any are forthcoming.

After all, the presence of a half-naked suspect in the bedroom is enough to alarm anyone to the point of using lethal force to defend themselves. If Marshall indeed challenged the homeowners to shoot him, he only received what he asked for and had no one to blame for his current medical state but himself.
