A person foolish enough to force their way into someone’s home tells the world they care little about their life. If they do this in Texas, that may be the price they pay.

A Fort Worth homeowner faced that shocking reality just after midnight Wednesday when a total stranger allegedly attacked their home and family. The wife was alerted that something was amiss by dogs barking, and she awakened her husband to let him know.

Thankfully, the family had a firearm readily available, and the husband retrieved it. And not a moment too soon since the suspect, later identified as 35-year-old Jeremy Black, reportedly used a plank of wood to shatter the daughter’s bedroom window.

The family reported that he had already destroyed part of their wooden fence. Black did not enter the residence through the now-broken window but instead attempted to gain entry through the kitchen door.

That was a nearly tragic mistake.

The husband was ready and opened fire as the intruder forced his way inside. Two rounds struck the suspect, who was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The wife, identified only by her first name, Christina, praised her husband’s quick response. “He just protected our family. Yeah, he did what he had to do. It was self-defense, what I’m afraid of is for the guy getting out maybe through bond or something and coming back.”

She said the incident in the dead of night shook up her family, even as they emerged uninjured. “It was really scary, especially for my children.”

Fort Worth Police public information officer Tracy Carter revealed that the husband does not face charges. “The homeowner did what any of us would have done, we’d wanna protect our family.”

Black was booked on suspicion of burglary of a habitation.

As this and so many other instances prove, the Second Amendment is the first line of defense for a growing number of Americans who refuse to become helpless victims.

They say the first step to solving a problem is admitting there is one.
