Last week, Black Friday’s annual retail carnage was good news for those who treasure the right to keep and bear arms. The American public came out in droves to exercise that right in stores nationwide.
The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) reported that a staggering 169,906 National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) checks were conducted on November 29, which was Black Friday.
Even with the Thanksgiving holiday closing stores for a day, the week saw an impressive total of more than 613,000 NICS checks.
That pushed November well over the one million mark for the 64th consecutive month. The NSSF confirmed that 1,514,773 NICS checks were conducted at the retail level for firearm purchases.
The weapons industry has enjoyed a run of over one million sales for five years and counting.
NSSF President and CEO Joe Bartozzi celebrated the overwhelmingly good news that Americans continue to support the Second Amendment with their wallets and purses.
“The background checks reported by the FBI are in keeping with the trends NSSF has seen throughout the year. While the overall trends are still coming off the peaks experienced in recent years, firearm sales remain consistently strong,” Bartozzi explained. “These figures tell us that there is a continuing strong appetite for lawful firearm ownership by law-abiding Americans and that firearm manufacturers across the country continue to deliver the quality firearms our customers have come to expect.”
Yearly data shows a trend of firearm sales peaking at year’s end with hunting season and purchases for holiday gifts.
Anti-gunners must be disheartened by the news that the public has a strong appetite to exercise the right to keep and bear arms. All the negative propaganda has not swayed the American people from their desire to be safe in and away from their homes.
