An alleged Washington state truck thief is recovering from a gunshot wound after he was caught in the act by a relative of the vehicle’s owner. Authorities report the dangerous encounter unfolded around 4:30 a.m. on Thursday in Mountlake Terrace.
According to witness accounts, the suspect was spotted attempting to drive off with the truck. When the relative confronted the person, the would-be thief brandished a weapon. Thankfully, the relative was also armed and responded by firing at least one shot at the alleged perpetrator.
Now wounded, the individual still somehow got away in the truck and apparently drove himself to Swedish Edmonds Hospital. Of course, employees called local authorities when he arrived suffering from a gunshot wound, and they quickly determined that he was the same person suspected of stealing the truck in the middle of the night.
The suspect is reportedly in stable condition, and there were no other injuries. The investigation into the violent encounter continues, though it is doubtful that the relative will face charges after allegedly having a gun brandished during the theft.
In 2025, you would think that with all the new technology, vehicle thefts would essentially be a thing of the past. Unfortunately for law-abiding citizens, the exact opposite appears to be true.
The National Insurance Crime Bureau reported another banner year in 2023 for stealing cars with a staggering 1.02 million incidents.
Enter the Second Amendment.
Any encounter with a vehicle thief has the potential to be deadly, as there is no way to know if the suspect is armed and if they are ready to use lethal force.
That’s why it is crucial always to have situational awareness and be legally armed and prepared. Although the truck owner’s relative could not have foreseen what they would encounter, they were able to respond to an immediate threat with appropriate force.
