For one Illinois man, a late-night encounter with a stranger proved the wisdom of always being armed.
As for his adversary, the alleged car burglar reportedly attempted to trick police investigators after being confronted by the vehicle’s owner.
According to multiple reports, a Chicago concealed carrier on the Far South Side discovered a 21-year-old suspect attempting to break into his vehicle at about 1 a.m. Tuesday morning. Armed and ready, the owner is believed to have shot the young man twice—once in each leg.
Knowing he needed medical attention but not wanting to go to jail, the suspect reportedly concocted a scheme to blame others for his actions. A call was placed to 911 in which he claimed to have been the victim of a drive-by shooting.
Unfortunately for him, the concealed carrier also dialed emergency services.
The armed citizen who defended his property told 911 what really went down when he discovered the stranger breaking into his property. The suspect was then transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center before being taken into custody.
Specific charges against the suspect were not released, and the investigation into the violent encounter continues.
What is clear is that the car’s owner made a wise choice to be armed in the early morning hours of Tuesday. While it is unclear if the suspect was also armed, the concealed carry permit holder was able to defend himself and stop a crime in progress.
