Administration Releases Report on ‘Debanking’ of 2A Businesses

On Wednesday, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) released a powerful new report detailing the financial industry’s efforts to “debank” Second Amendment-related businesses and individuals.

Titled “Guaranteeing Fair Banking for All Americans,” it exposes this insidious practice that began with the Department of Justice in 2013. Feds pressured financial institutions to sever ties with companies deemed “high risk.”

These included the weapons industry. “Operation Choke Point” sought to freeze or terminate vital services for disfavored customers who were law-abiding and qualified.

Banks’ actions nothing more than politically motivated discrimination

The new OCC report described an all-too-common scenario in which an upstanding, constitutionally protected business was denied financial services because of the nebulous “reputational risk.”

“A bank customer involved in the firearms industry requested assistance with an initial public offering,” the writing noted. “The bank’s environmental and social risk management policy at the time restricted it from new business relationships with customers aligned with the bank’s internal responsible firearms standards.”

These “standards” included restrictions on standard-capacity magazines and denying gun rights to young adults under 21.

A financial institution took it upon itself to define an enumerated constitutional right and discriminate against those who did not toe its political line.

Wall Street could dictate how businesses operate based on beliefs

In August 2025, President Donald Trump issued Executive Order 14331. Its purpose was clear.

“No American should be denied access to financial services because of their constitutionally or statutorily protected beliefs, affiliations, or political views,” the order declared. The slippery slope here could not be more evident.

If bankers are allowed to deny fundamental services that are the lifeblood of every business, they can enforce standards for everything from politics and religion to morals and anything that they find unfavorable.

This is unacceptable. Banks cannot turn away customers for being a Democrat or Republican, and doing so would rightly create a storm of controversy.

Second Amendment rights should be no different.

There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.

Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
