The U.S. Supreme Court, while accepting briefs on the constitutionality of banning the most popular sporting rifles in America, received one too ludicrously misguided to take seriously.
Connecticut attorney David A. Robinson’s claim to fame is that he spent thousands of his own dollars in a quixotic campaign for a 28th amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
His argument? Part of the Second Amendment is “extinct,” and its protections extend only as far as self-defense and hunting. The sheer arrogance of such a stance is mind-blowing, and it’s no wonder that his push to rewrite the Bill of Rights never got off the ground.
Failure on attorney’s part created–in his mind–a constitutional crisis
Incredibly, Robinson argued that because his laughable proposal never gained traction, the Supreme Court should step in and correct the Founding Fathers’ obvious error.
“One reason it was unsuccessful is that people cannot agree on what the new amendment should say,” Robinson wrote. “Therefore, it is the role of this Court to pronounce what is, and is not, extinct about the Second Amendment. This Court should not expect the American people to do so.”
That’s a logical pretzel that even the most ardent Second Amendment opponent must agree is unbecoming of a serious legal mind.
Justices considering serious and not so serious positions on gun control
The High Court is still a month away from hearing oral arguments in Viramontes v. Cook County, which is consolidated with Grant v. Higgins. Both cases addressed the legality of bans on AR-15s and similar semi-automatic rifles.
With tens of millions of these firearms already in the hands of law-abiding Americans, many will watch these proceedings closely.
The Court has a stack of briefs to consider from both sides of this volatile issue. Learned experts are weighing in, as can be expected anytime the Supreme Court accepts a case with such sweeping ramifications.
Then there’s David A. Robinson, who assumes the authority to declare part of the most important governing document in the modern world to be defunct because he says it is.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
