The Second Amendment affords all law-abiding Americans the right to armed self-defense. It is the ultimate equal opportunity to protect oneself, loved ones and property from wrongdoers who prey on the innocent and defenseless.

Yet another case of an intended victim choosing to flip the script on their attacker emerged Friday, this time in Malta, New York.

According to authorities, the terrifying incident unfolded at a mobile home park at about 11:30 a.m. Police later identified the alleged attacker as 49-year-old Kurt M. Hubbard, who resided at the Locust Grove Motel.

According to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, Hubbard is believed to have forced his way into a residence at the Northway Estates Mobile Home Park. He reportedly attacked a resident as other occupants of the home fled to a back bedroom.

The individual who was allegedly assaulted also rushed to that room, and one of the residents produced a shotgun. Two rounds were fired, and the suspect was struck and died on the scene.

According to Sheriff Michael Zurlo, the case is apparently one of self-defense as the residents took no obvious criminal action. He notified the public that there was no longer a threat to the community, and the incident was over.

Zurlo explained, “At this time, the investigation has not revealed any criminal conduct by the resident who appears to have been defending himself inside of his home from a subject who was not known to him. I caution that this investigation is far from over, and we will not be making any further statements until it is concluded.”

Without new revelations, it is highly doubtful that criminal charges will be filed against the shooter. The act, by all accounts, was in self-defense, and even in New York, there is a recognized right to respond with deadly force when faced with such a threat.

Again, the Second Amendment affords the freedom to be armed and to defend against imminent threats. It appears that this latest case is yet another example of good guys using firearms to turn away a violent threat.
