A terrifying home invasion attempt in Arizona left one man hospitalized and sent several others running for cover when the homeowner opened fire.
The latest incident of armed self-defense unfolded in Laveen just after 1:00 a.m. Sunday morning. The Phoenix Police Department reported that multiple armed men broke into the residence.
That turned out to be a nearly fatal mistake.
At least one of the residents was armed, and he sprang into action to defend himself and others in the home. The armed defender protected a woman and three children.
Several shots were fired at the suspects, and one of the alleged attackers was hit. The explosion of gunfire sent the other alleged home invaders scrambling away, ending the threat.
None of the five people present in the residence when the attack occurred were injured, thanks to the readily available weapon.
Responding officers found the wounded suspect when they arrived, and he was transported to an area hospital with what were described as serious injuries.
The wounded man was identified as 19-year-old Michael Valles. He faces charges of aggravated robbery, armed robbery, kidnapping, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Drone footage of the scene was released, and it showed a firearm with an extended magazine lying in the driveway.
A neighbor identified only as “Chuck” spoke to local media about the terrifying scene. He believed the attackers were attempting to steal the Hellcat sports car owned by one of the residents.
“They were trying to get his car,” the witness explained. “They bum rushed him in his house and tried to get his keys. Next thing you know, shots ring out.”
If his account is accurate, more than one person faces decades behind bars for a violent attempt to steal a car. The alleged perpetrators were lucky to escape with their lives.
