Fast food parking lots at late-night hours are not the safest places to be, and it was fortunate for a New Hampshire man Tuesday night that a Good Samaritan was armed and willing to step in and protect him.

According to investigators, the dramatic showdown unfolded outside a McDonald’s in Nashua. Two groups engaged in an escalating argument that spiraled out of control when one man apparently pulled a knife.

A 32-year-old male victim was stabbed multiple times in the face and abdomen, and that’s when the good guy with a gun stepped up.

Police reported that Felix Marengo saw the incident explode while sitting in his vehicle outside the restaurant. The lawful gun owner quickly decided to act and drew his gun to confront the suspect.

The threat of a firearm and a man willing to use it to defend another did the trick quickly. The suspect, later identified as 22-year-old Jose Vasquez, stopped the vicious attack and ran behind a nearby Wendy’s establishment.

Vasquez turned himself in to authorities the following morning and now faces a charge of first-degree assault.

The victim was transported to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center with what were described as serious injuries. He is expected to survive the brutal attack, thanks to the intervention of a good citizen who was prepared and not afraid to act.

This situation highlighted an encounter that anti-Second Amendment forces will likely overlook. The mere presence of a firearm and a courageous citizen were enough to arguably save a man’s life, and the gun was never even discharged.

The threat of lethal force was sufficient to defuse the situation immediately, send the alleged attacker scurrying for cover, and allow authorities to treat the injured party.

And it’s all because a good citizen was prepared and stepped up when needed.
