A courageous Good Samaritan stepped up when needed the most in a frightening Virginia incident that obviously sent shock waves throughout the community.
Terrel Majette of Franklin was having an ordinary early evening Wednesday at approximately 6 p.m., sitting on his front porch talking to his brother. That was when the utterly unexpected burst onto them.
Two small children ran toward the men, shouting that a man with a knife was pursuing them. Majette told authorities, “I was sitting on my steps here, and the little girl, she said, ‘There’s a man chasing after us with a knife.”
The small boy ran to his home while the girl attempted to hide on the porch with the two men.
Majette sprang into action, hurriedly entering his residence to retrieve his firearm. Doorbell camera footage caught the chaotic scene that unfolded next.
When Majette returned to the porch — now armed — his brother yelled to him from the car, “Hey bro, he’s charging, he’s charging.” The security video showed the homeowner telling the alleged attacker not to step onto his property and to return to his home.
The hero recalled, “Going into protection mode, going into father mode, that was the first thing.
As the confrontation escalated, his wife rushed the terrified little girl into the home. Rachel Majette said the girl “was shaken up she was crying, and by the time she got home, I think she was still crying, her grandma said.”
The 29-year-old alleged attacker, now faced with armed resistance, then attempted to pursue children who were next door. He ended up on the ground and is seen on video stabbing the dirt.
Franklin police revealed the department is familiar with the suspect, and he was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Thankfully, the two children were not injured, and this is likely all due to Majette’s bravery and quick actions. He told reporters, “I’m just glad I was able to maintain my composure and de-escalate the situation.”
