If anti-Second Amendment extremists were honest, they would readily admit that there are daily incidents where lawful gun owners use their weapons to protect themselves from violent criminals.

But these forces would rather try to convince the American public that weapons are the root of all evil and must be eradicated.

Yet another counterpoint was emphatically made last Tuesday when a concealed carry permit holder in Houston simply drove up to a convenience store.

The unidentified intended victim pulled into an Exxon station when, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, another man aggressively confronted him. Investigators reviewing security video footage saw the attacker force the driver to retreat across the parking lot.

Then the criminal demanded his victim’s wallet.

The armed customer did not immediately go for his weapon but instead handed over his possessions. However, that did not stop the violent assault, and the intended victim made a fateful decision.

He drew his pistol and demanded that the attacker back away. Incredibly, investigators determined that the alleged criminal merely came closer to the armed man.

This was a fatal mistake.

The armed citizen shot his attacker and then called 911. While waiting on law enforcement to arrive, he secured his weapon in his vehicle.

Paramedics attempted life-saving procedures on the injured party, but he died on the scene. The man who defended himself fully cooperated with authorities, and their subsequent investigation by all accounts confirmed his version of events.

As is normal procedure, the case will be referred to a grand jury. But with evidence stacked in favor of the intended victim, it is highly unlikely that their review will result in charges.

These are the stories the mainstream media should be plastering across headlines. Honest and law-abiding Americans protect themselves daily from vicious predators, and legal weapons are their front line of defense.
