A violent South Chicago altercation late Saturday night resulted in a 17-year-old stabbing suspect being shot by a lawful gun owner.
Investigators reported that the confrontation unfolded at around 11:30 p.m. beside a city street. A teenage girl carrying a sharp object is believed to have confronted a 26-year-old.
The teenager is accused of stabbing the older woman in the right arm with the object, and that proved to be a major mistake.
The 26-year-old had a valid Concealed Carry License (CCL) and a Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card. Being lawfully armed, she drew her weapon after being stabbed and shot her alleged attacker in the left shoulder.
Both the stabbing suspect and the older woman who defended herself were taken to different area hospitals for treatment. The concealed carry holder is listed in good condition at the hospital while the teenager was treated for her gunshot wound and released.
At last report, charges against the 17-year-old female are pending. Even with the draconian gun control laws Illinois residents live under, it is doubtful that the 26-year-old woman will face legal consequences for self-defense.
That’s because she diligently ensured she could legally carry a weapon for protection. That firearm turned out to be a godsend Saturday night when she apparently was attacked on the street.
With Chicago’s exploding crime rate along with oppressive gun control regulations, it is difficult but not impossible for good citizens to be legally armed. The woman who defended herself proved this and was able to exercise her Second Amendment rights despite the best efforts of the state to circumvent the Constitution.
It is unfortunate that a young teenager was shot, but hopefully, she will answer for her actions and emerge from her punishment as a better person.
