Fanatical Second Amendment opponents know they cannot outright ban firearms, but that doesn’t stop their mad rush to make the right to keep and bear arms as challenging to exercise as possible.

These misguided lawmakers want to stigmatize gun owners as society’s outliers, people who are not to be trusted to make their own decisions.

In Colorado this week, HB25-1133 is just the latest example of the second-class status of the Second Amendment to anti-gunners.

On Tuesday, the state House passed this measure to further restrict law-abiding citizens from exercising their constitutional freedoms.

Supporters hailed the bill’s advancement, declaring that it will “require ammunition to be stored behind the counter like nicotine, cold medicine, and other commonly misused or harmful products.

The measure also arbitrarily declared 21 the minimum age for purchasing rifle and shotgun ammunition, whereas current law sets the legal age for acquiring these products at 18.

House Majority Leader Monica Duran (D) erroneously claimed that the bill would “protect our communities from senseless gun violence and improve public safety.” Anti-gunners always make these statements while justifying infringing on personal liberties, but they are never backed up with evidence that they work.

Duran also credited the latest gun control measure with “helping reduce theft and keeping ammunition out of the wrong hands.”

Does she believe for one moment that moving products behind counters will keep the bad guys from getting their hands on them? Of course not. It’s just another way to exert state control over citizens and smear gun owners as untrustworthy members of society.

Coloradans with a valid hunter education certificate or a hunting license, expired or current, are exempt from the bill’s provisions. Shooting range clients from 18 and up would also be permitted to purchase ammo on-site.
