Carjacking is one of the most frightening acts a person can endure. The perpetrator comes out of nowhere and attacks their target in a place where they should feel safe from harm.
At one moment a law-abiding citizen is behind the wheel, the next they have a gun pointed at them as they are commanded to give up their vehicle.
But one intended victim did not follow the narrative his attackers intended to continue. Instead, he turned the tables in dramatic fashion on his assailants.
It was early Tuesday morning in Washington, D.C., 6:39 a.m. It is ironic that there is so much crime in the city where the nation’s laws are crafted, but that’s where we are in 2023. The Metropolitan Police Department reported that suspects pulled up next to the driver, and one exited the car, produced a gun “and demanded the victim’s vehicle.”
The driver, however, was a concealed carry permit holder with a legally registered pistol. He was also ready to defend his life and property. Instead of becoming yet another statistic, he pulled his firearm and shot the armed man attempting to carjack him.
The driver apparently changed his mind about the carjacking attempt and decided it was a great time to make a getaway, leaving his wounded passenger behind.
The would-be victim then gave first aid to the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Marcus Lavelle Thompson, as he waited for police to arrive. The suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
He reportedly faces charges including armed carjacking (gun), carrying a pistol without a license, possession of unregistered ammunition, and possession of a large capacity feeding device.
Once more, a law-abiding citizen survives a dramatic encounter with a violent criminal, and it is because of his lawfully exercised Second Amendment rights. These incidents should be on the front page of every newspaper and the banner headline of every news site.
