Besides the city’s normally high rate of violent crime, Chicago has been the scene of several notable recent incidents in which armed good guys defended life and property against criminals.

This latest occurrence unfolded Thursday around 10:40 p.m. in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. A resident who was also a concealed carry holder called law enforcement to report a person on rooftops in the area. Repeatedly.

For reasons unknown, it took the police at least 20 minutes to be assigned to check out the situation. That apparently was too long, since minutes after the final call for help was made, the sound of gunshots was detected. When officers finally arrived, they found a female suspect on the roof of the home.

The resident reported he shot at her to stop her from entering the residence.

She had been shot in the chest and wrist. At last report she was listed in good condition at Illinois Masonic Hospital. Detectives recovered a gun at the scene and the investigation continues.

By all accounts, the resident did the right thing in this confrontation with the wannabe Spiderwoman. Authorities were called multiple times but were unable to send a response in anything resembling a reasonable time. They were well within their legal rights to prevent the alleged burglar from entering their home and they took appropriate action.

It is unclear who the gun recovered at the scene belonged to, but if the alleged burglar was armed, she posed an even greater danger to the resident.

While there are many questions surrounding this incident, particularly what was transpiring in the neighborhood during the 20 minutes it took for police to be dispatched, the homeowner was compelled to defend life and property from an alleged burglar. It is highly doubtful they will face charges.
