Despite the fundamental right to self-defense enjoyed by all Americans, taking up arms can still be risky when faced with a threat.
That is due to the startling number of rogue prosecutors who are bent on letting perpetrators walk and persecuting those who exercise their Second Amendment rights.
Therefore, it was good news when a Pennsylvania homeowner was notified that they do not face prosecution for a violent Saturday night incident.
The Henry Clay Township resident shot an alleged intruder twice in the face, and it was up to authorities to determine whether the citizen acted appropriately.
When police responded to a burglary call from the Mae West Road residence, they found the suspect, identified as 62-year-old David Luczak of Cleveland, seriously wounded. He was taken by helicopter to West Virginia Hospital and was listed in stable condition at last report.
Less than two days later, District Attorney Michael Aubele determined that the homeowner was justified in using lethal force to protect himself and his property.
The announcement was made Monday morning.
Aubele classified the response by the intended victim as “appropriate” and explained that the law backs up the rights of the people to step up and be their own first responder when confronted with a violent threat. “We acknowledge the absolute right of every citizen to make reasonable, split-second decisions to use deadly force to defend themselves and others.”
In an age where right is often labeled wrong and bad guys get away with preying on the innocent, it is refreshing to see this DA so emphatically support the critical right to self-defense.
Without further information contradicting everything learned so far, the homeowner obviously acted reasonably when confronted by violence. It is the sad reality that good people must be ready to defend themselves, even in the sanctuary of their homes.
