While the wisdom of braving a crowded Walmart on Christmas Eve is certainly debatable, it should not have potentially deadly consequences.

However, for shoppers at the Clarksville, Tennessee, location, a frantic day of last-minute buying turned into a mad scramble for cover. And an armed hero is credited with ending a violent threat.

It was about 12:45 p.m. last Tuesday when an aggressive 19-year-old customer is believed to have started an argument. Investigators determined that Labron Gibson produced a firearm in an apparently threatening manner in front of shocked onlookers.

Calls poured into emergency services from Walmart shoppers who witnessed the confrontation. An unidentified individual is credited with stepping up and stopping what could have been a major incident.

Instead, the person produced their own weapon and fired several shots at Gibson. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and there was no further aggression reported.

Clarksville Police officers and Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies responded and evacuated the store as they determined there was no active shooter

Gibson reportedly drove himself to Tennova Healthcare, and authorities did not release his condition. He was charged with four counts of aggravated assault.

Investigators determined that Gibson was the primary aggressor and that the shooter responded to the violent threat and defended his family.

It is a shame that violent crime does not observe holidays, and it cares nothing for the safety and well-being of families out enjoying themselves in a festive season. The Tennessee incident and several others in recent days only serve to remind law-abiding citizens that there is never a good time to be unprepared.

And for one Clarksville family and many others who unfortunately witnessed the violence, it is a blessing that a good guy with a gun was there to end the threat.
