If only people would simply break up and go their separate ways, leaving the past behind. That would be ideal, but unfortunately it is often not the case. Vengeful ex-spouses and partners often turn to criminal acts in their spiteful rage, and these are threats that must be countered.
An estranged husband learned the hard way that it does not pay to attempt to exact revenge when the target is armed.
On Wednesday, a Midwest City, Oklahoma, woman’s estranged husband allegedly messed around and found out.
The woman and her boyfriend were at her residence when barking dogs alerted them to a strange presence. The boyfriend went to investigate and reportedly discovered the estranged husband, who police identified as 34-year-old Mauricio Alexander Delarosa.
He was inside the home.
The intruder allegedly charged the boyfriend, who had the presence of mind to be armed. He fired a single shot, and the bullet struck him in the chest. The two had never met.
Investigators said Delarosa ran from the home before collapsing in a neighbor’s yard. He was then transported to the hospital. He faces charges of first-degree burglary and stalking.
A neighbor, identified only as Gabrielle, told reporters that break-ins are a common occurrence, even in Oklahoma. “I’m just glad that it’s open carry in this state because people need to be able to protect [themselves].
Gabrielle issued a warning to those who believe that area residents are helpless prey. “I guess they see targets, but I’m telling you, you think them single moms aren’t armed, or you know, them single dads or people are not going to protect their home. You come in them doors you know, and you’re not invited you might get filled up with holes. And that’s just the honest truth.”
Area residents said the neighborhood went downhill after the Steed Elementary School building was abandoned.
