Even at 5 a.m., a young woman should be able to walk in a small Southern town and not be accosted–much less shot. That horrifying scenario unfolded before sunrise Sunday morning in Liberty County, Georgia, and the victim’s father came to her rescue.
The unidentified female was walking home when a group of troublemakers allegedly accosted her. She rightly ignored them, but they did not take no for an answer.
Instead, at least one of them opened fire, striking her arm. That’s when her father heard the craziness near his home.
Dad ran to daughter’s rescue with a loaded firearm
He raced outside with a loaded firearm and got off shots at the men, who undoubtedly turned tail and ran far away as fast as they could. Investigators found nothing at the scene to indicate any of the suspects were struck by bullets fired by the protective father.
As for his daughter, she was transported to an area hospital and treated for her wound. The probe into the shooting is ongoing.
The circumstances that led to once again seeing the Second Amendment in action deserve another look.
Three young men learned a lesson they will never forget
A young woman was verbally confronted by three men on the dark street, an approach that never works. When she automatically rebuffed their advances, that should have been that.
Instead, someone began firing shots. The woman was fortunate not to suffer a serious injury, but any person who experiences being shot understandably knows how frightening that is.
Liberty County authorities have not announced charges against the father, and none should be forthcoming. If there’s just one instinct shared by all good people, it’s the need to protect their children from harm through whatever means are available.
In this case, that means was a loaded firearm. Without it, the rejected bad guys may have made the situation infinitely worse.
Instead, they learned a lesson that teachers don’t teach, but fathers do.
