This is a cautionary tale for those who are swayed by arguments that no one needs to have an ammunition magazine that holds more than 10 rounds.
A man in DeLand, Florida, was able to ward off a dramatic home invasion attempt allegedly carried out by four armed intruders Wednesday afternoon. Two were shot as he fired a total of 17 rounds in his defense.
Police report that the homeowner was no angel, as they believe he conducted previous narcotics transactions with the suspects who targeted him. Investigators discovered that the home invasion was targeted specifically at the man who allegedly dealt the illegal drugs.
The violent incident began at roughly 5:45 p.m. when the quartet of attackers are believed to have struck the residence.
The intended victim retreated and was able to get his firearm, discharging it 17 times against the four suspects. His bullets also found another target.
The getaway vehicle was struck numerous times by his gunfire. It was later discovered filled with bullet holes during a traffic stop by police in Daytona Beach.
The injured suspects were identified as Timothy Bourn, 22, of Holly Hill, and Marquis Williams, 19, of Daytona Beach. The driver of the bullet-riddled escape vehicle, Benjamin Warren, 19, of Daytona Beach, and Jaiden Hunt, 20, of Holly Hill were apprehended when the damaged car was spotted.
All the suspects are currently being held without bond.
To be clear, no one is attempting to portray the alleged target as a law-abiding citizen. But whatever did or did not transpire between him and the attackers, he was faced with a frightening home invasion that only drove home the dangers of such criminal activity.
When the next home invasion occurs, it may not be at the residence of a suspected drug dealer. Instead, it could be a law-abiding family that is targeted by a group of violent offenders.
It took 17 bullets to turn back Wednesday’s attack. For the defender, it’s a good thing he had access to more rounds than many in the gun control lobby would permit.
