A frightening home intrusion was halted in its tracks Friday night in a dramatic confrontation in Phoenix, Arizona. Police report that an alleged intruder broke out a window of a home and hit a door.
According to 12News, 35-year-old Juan Saavedra attempted to force his way inside while an adult woman and teenage boy were home. The heroic young man came to the aid of his mother, confronting the alleged intruder before shooting him.
Saavedra was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and then booked into jail. At last report he is being held on a $50,000 bond.
Police were called to the residence near Glendale around 10 p.m. They said later that Saavedra had no known connection to the home or its occupants.
Detectives told local media that they found no reason to doubt the account given by the teenage boy of the shooting. A neighbor expressed their relief that the family was able to defend themselves and emerged safe from a potentially tragic situation.
“We would have done the same thing, so I feel good for them,” the person said.
The armed teenager sustained a minor injury in the confrontation.
Without a doubt there is a mother in Arizona intensely proud of her son for stepping up and confronting a violent intruder. She is thankful that a firearm was present and readily available to ward off what could have been a much worse situation.
These incidents are becoming more common as violent crime continues to be rampant across the nation. Statistics show gun ownership rates soaring as law-abiding citizens decide they must be their own first responders and be ready for the worst.
This scenario is yet another highlighting the value of the Second Amendment in saving lives.
