I vividly remember being against the idea of having to retreat when my life was in danger, while learning about self-defense laws in law school. I thought, wait, he’s trying to kill me but I have the duty to retreat before I use lethal force to protect my life? Thankfully, in Texas, there is no duty to retreat. If someone is trying to take my life, the only duty I have is to make sure that does not happen.
