An alleged intruder armed with a knife met his fate early Tuesday morning in a Louisiana break-in and attack.

Authorities received the call at roughly 1:50 a.m. from a Vernon Parish residence reporting a violent intrusion and multiple assaults. Officers with the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office and Rosepine Police Department rushed to the location only to find the tragic aftermath.

Tragic for the alleged attacker, at least.

Officials discovered a man dead from a gunshot wound and two residents of the home suffering from being stabbed. A man was severely cut, and a woman also was injured in the attack.

The deceased offender was identified as 47-year-old Lavelle Tommy Tullis of Boyce.

Investigators determined that he broke into the residence through a window as he searched for his ex-girlfriend, which is all too often the case in these deadly incidents.

The female previously took her children and fled from Tullis, but hiding with friends at the home did not prevent the confrontation early Tuesday. When the suspect entered the residence, authorities believe he attacked his estranged girlfriend in front of her kids.

Tullis also allegedly attacked the male and female residents with the knife, but the man was able to fall back into a different room to get the firearm. As the alleged attacker pursued him, at least one gunshot was fired, resulting in the intruder’s death.

The defensive shooter was airlifted to a Lake Charles hospital for what were described as life-threatening injuries, and his condition is currently unknown. The female stabbing victim was treated at a nearby hospital and released.

The investigation is ongoing, but charges against the homeowner are not expected.

Yet again, a good guy with a gun is the difference between life and possible death, and the Second Amendment rose to the occasion. It will be a good day when people finally learn to let go of bad relationships and move on.
