No one goes into an evening expecting an armed intruder to attempt to force their way in. Undoubtedly last Friday was a normal day for a Bakersfield, California family, right up until it wasn’t.
Ring doorbell camera footage showed the frightening moments when the suspect, 38-year-old Tanarri Stocker, first rang the doorbell at one home before running to a neighboring residence. At that point he apparently attempted to force his way into that home.
But there he encountered a legal gun owner ready to defend his family.
The man at the first home, Quincy Sloan, was out on a date with his wife when he received a notification on his Ring mobile app. His son and dogs came to the door for the stranger. “Our dog Ebony runs out, makes contact with him, and chases him to the next-door neighbor,” he reported.
It was then that Stocker allegedly ran next door where Sloan said he broke into the yard through the side gate and then forced his way into a door leading into the home.
In the audio of the doorbell footage a voice can be heard saying, “Get out.” Then two gunshots rang out that Sloan reported came from Stocker. Then the neighbor apparently shot back at the suspect while his son was on the phone with 911.
After the shots were exchanged, the family ran to their backyard. The wounded suspect reportedly bolted upstairs and then jumped out of a window just as police arrived.
First aid was administered on the scene, and then Stocker was transported to a local hospital. At last report he was listed in critical condition.
Sloan told reporters that his neighbor took his family out of town after the frightening incident. He hailed the defender as a hero, saying “he protected his family. That was the only thing that was on his mind. We know that this person had evil intent.”
Still another case of a legal gun owner protecting his family in the face of imminent danger. This is a story that should have headlined newscasts over the weekend, but of course it didn’t.
