Traffic is undoubtedly a grind in urban areas, and most drivers experience frustration regularly on their daily commutes. But when simple annoyance escalates into a road rage incident, the results can be deadly.
Luckily for one Kentucky driver, he was armed and ready to defend his family from a despicable attack.
It was about 9:30 a.m. last Wednesday when a man driving a Honda Odyssey with three children inside became the target of an enraged driver. His front and rear cameras recorded the incident, making the investigation easy for Louisville officials.
According to law enforcement, 41-year-old Graham Bain of Louisville brake-checked the van with the children inside, forcing the driver to swerve around him.
That should have ended whatever transpired, but it did not.
Instead, investigators believe Bain pursued the Honda and attempted to stop it while bumping it several times. The driver with the three little girls fired at least one shot at their attacker during the chase.
The already alarming confrontation escalated dramatically when the suspect allegedly used his vehicle as a battering ram to strike the van and flatten a tire.
With the van now stopped, Bain allegedly drove his vehicle into it again and nearly caused it to flip. The driver saw no recourse but to act decisively to protect himself and the three little ones.
He fired multiple shots, and one struck Bain in the midsection, ending the horrific attack.
Law enforcement quickly swarmed the scene, and the video footage from both cameras was a treasure trove of information. Evidence led to officials’ determination that Bain was the aggressor, and he faces four counts of wanton endangerment when he is released from the hospital.
An LMPD official told local media that the suspect “shows extreme indifference to the value of human life” and “created a substantial danger of death or serious physical injury.”
Apparently given no choice, the armed van driver did exactly what he was forced to do to protect his family.
