When a group of people trespass while armed, bad things usually happen. 51 year old Stevan McKinney discovered that when he was shot and killed while trespassing through a Tucson neighborhood recently.
According to police, McKinney and a group of people were moving through the backyards of a neighborhood in the area of Dodge Boulevard and Grant Road in Tucson around 9:30 pm when they were confronted by people responsible for a home.
McKinney and his group were asked to leave, but refused. An argument ensued in which McKinney declared and showed that he was armed.
The argument escalated and McKinney was shot. When officers arrived, they discovered McKinney with “Obvious gunshot trauma” according to Tucson police spokesperson Sgt. Richard Gradillas and began lifesaving measures.
Those measures were unsuccessful and McKinney was declared dead at the scene.
Sgt. Gradillas also reported that the shooting was being investigated as a homicide and all parties involved are cooperating and no other suspects are being sought.
Arizona law does allow the use of force in self defense in a variety of cases, including the defense of property including criminal trespass. Police did not immediately identify the shooter.
