The nanny state is alive and well in New York as gun stores are soon to be required to hang warning signs targeting customers. These will be emblazoned with messaging that firearms in the home are a health hazard.
Never mind that the health hazard is likely for a bad guy seeking to harm the occupants. Lawmakers are intent on sidestepping what should be their primary concern — violent crime — and instead imposing every little nuisance law possible on law-abiding citizens.
The signs will be worded this way: “Access to a weapon or firearm in the home significantly increases the risk of suicide, death during domestic disputes, and/or unintentional deaths to children, household members and others. If you or a loved one is experiencing distress and/or depression, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 988.
Second Amendment advocates know through years of experience that the legislature lacks the political will to address what citizens are most concerned about. They instead resort to meaningless gimmicks.
One such critic is Brandon Lewis, who owns The Firing Pin Indoor Shooting Range and Gun Shop in Bergen.
“We just see this as attacking the symptoms as opposed to the root issue of trying to solve some of these societal problems that we have. Are car manufacturers going to have to say you’re more likely to get in a car accident by buying this vehicle?”
Of course not.
Lewis added that the government push is just another step toward ostracizing gun owners and stigmatizing weapons to equate them with harmful items such as cigarettes. He added, “We ignore any positive the firearms might have.”
Of course, these positives would counter the argument that guns are evil and gun owners are a detriment to society. The Second Amendment and the right to self-defense are to be brushed aside in favor of the nanny state and more oppressive gun control.
They say the first step to solving a problem is admitting there is one.
Well, the Pew Collectors Anonymous is your way of admitting you have a problem buying guns but you have no intentions of solving that problem, because Pew Collectors Anonymous isn’t about solving a problem; it’s about embracing it.
