A Florida man learned the hard way that a motor vehicle is a dangerous weapon, and driving it toward others in a threatening manner may lead to a lethal response.
It was around 7:40 p.m. Saturday evening in Port Orange when authorities believe 47-year-old Marcus Blicker engaged in a road conflict with one of his neighbor’s sons and a friend. The older man reportedly swerved at the two vehicles as they drove near his house, prompting the son to call his father and report the apparent threat.
The father responded by grabbing a rifle and heading to his yard to confront the alleged attacker. When Blicker pulled into his driveway, investigators reported that the father fired in the air as a deterrent.
Instead of turning aside, the warning shots only prompted Blicker to reverse and allegedly speed his truck directly at the homeowner and another individual.
The father then fired multiple shots into the vehicle, and it came to a stop in his yard.
Responding officers found the wounded Blicker in the truck’s cab, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators retrieved security video from the neighborhood, which appeared to corroborate the tragic events as described by the father and other witnesses.
The probe into the fatal encounter continues, and at last report, no charges have been filed against the defender.
Officials discovered a Rottweiler in the truck cab suffering from gunshot injuries, but the dog was treated and is expected to recover.
It was also determined that Blicker had an extensive criminal history, which included convictions for aggravated stalking and battery.
There is no word on precisely what sparked the confrontation between Blicker and the two drivers, but the standoff escalated quickly. The homeowner responded in an apparently logical manner to the threat and defended himself and his family.
