An alleged apartment intruder in Ohio made a fatal mistake early Sunday morning when he allegedly attempted to break into a residence through the balcony.
The resident was startled when he heard noises coming from outside, and thankfully, he was prepared with a proper response.
Police were called to the West Chester Township dwelling at around 3:30 a.m. Responding officers found the suspect who allegedly broke into the apartment suffering from a gunshot wound.
The alleged intruder was taken to a local hospital with what were described as life-threatening injuries. The man, later identified by the Butler County Coroner’s Office as 22-year-old Isaiah Erickson, died there.
The community is described as a generally quiet area in shock over the violent encounter.
Lori Martin lives across the street from the apartments, and she told Local12 News that she will make changes to her lifestyle after the shooting.
“I might not let my kids play outside anymore by themselves,” Martin revealed. “Make them play in the backyard. It makes me kind of scared, but I’m kind of in shock. I didn’t know anything like that would happen this close to home.”
It is safe to bet that residents who are not already armed will at least consider taking all precautions to protect themselves and their loved ones. While no one expects such encounters so close to home, it is important to remember that no one is immune.
