Despite the daily efforts of anti-gunners who are dead set on convincing the public that guns are the root of all evil, the plain truth is there for everyone to see. Firearms are instruments, and it’s only in the hands of bad people that they cause harm.

They are also instruments for good, and there are countless instances across the nation where they protect the innocent from violent criminals.

Just last week, there was yet another example out of Chicago where an upstanding citizen exercised their Second Amendment right to defend themselves. This time, it was in the western suburb of Schiller Park.

It was roughly 5:30 p.m., the middle of the afternoon, when a driver reportedly began harassing another man as they pulled up to a red light. Investigators believe the instigator then jumped out of his stopped vehicle and ran toward the intended victim.

Then he began firing shots.

The innocent man was thankfully armed, and faced with no other choice, he produced his weapon and shot at his alleged attacker. Police later identified the aggressor as 19-year-old Malachi N. Johnson of Streamwood, Illinois.

He was transported to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The defender and none of his passengers were injured in the frightening incident.

The Schiller Park Police Department issued a statement after investigating the deadly encounter. “After reviewing all evidence, along with interviews of involved individuals and witnesses, it was decided, along with the State’s Attorney’s Office, that no charges would be brought against the second individual involved as it was determined that he acted in self-defense and possessed a valid FOID and CCL.

This latest violent encounter is yet another clear example of the importance of being legally armed and prepared — even when driving in the middle of the afternoon. It is the sad state of affairs in 2024 that our society is besieged by those who would cause harm, and they must be defended against.

They say the first step to solving a problem is admitting there is one.
