A Colorado resident found himself in a frightening situation early Sunday morning as a violent intruder allegedly attacked him in his home. Once again, the alarming incident proved the necessity for proper preparations against criminal activities.
Commerce City officers were notified at around 2:45 a.m. of a violent encounter involving an alleged intruder and a resident. The adult male homeowner told authorities that he suffered injuries while being attacked by an unknown assailant, and he managed to shoot the intruder.
When law enforcement arrived, they found the body of the alleged attacker inside the home.
After fighting off the adult male intruder, the injured resident ran to a neighbor’s home to summon help. Local media reported that the victim was apparently struck several times in the incident.
Detective Sgt. Derek Aragon described the homeowner as “pretty beaten up — face, whole body. He had obvious injuries.”
The resident who defended himself was hospitalized for treatment of his wounds. He is expected to fully recover.
Additional details are vague as the investigation into the fatal encounter continues, and identification of the alleged intruder is forthcoming from the Adams County Coroner.
The homeowner’s outcome may well have been far different if he had not been armed and able to retrieve his weapon to defend himself. For a violent criminal to invade a home and attack the resident proves without a doubt that they are more than ready to inflict serious harm on their victims.
The fact that the resident suffered serious injuries suggests that the weapon he ultimately used to defend himself may not have been readily available. That is something that all who prepare to protect themselves and their loved ones must consider before encountering the unexpected.
There is no celebrating the loss of life, but it is noteworthy that yet another law-abiding citizen used their Second Amendment rights to protect themselves from possibly deadly harm.
