A frightening situation emerged last week at a Nevada Walmart, and a customer is believed to have acted in self-defense after being attacked in the parking lot.

Emergency services received multiple calls about an incident involving two males outside the store. Henderson Police and Fire officials responded to the scene and found a 38-year-old man on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound.

Investigators determined that the injured party approached another vehicle in front of the Walmart with a firearm in his hand.

The man in the vehicle was also armed, and he fired at the suspect before fleeing for his safety. The unidentified 38-year-old got off multiple rounds after he was struck, but his intended victim was unharmed, and there were no other injuries.

First responders attempted to treat the suspect at the scene, but he died there.

Police reported that the intended victim remained at the location after initially speeding away from the suspect, and he explained what transpired to officers. He was not arrested, and initial reports indicate authorities believe he likely acted in self-defense.

HPD officials released a statement on the incident. “Detectives are investigating this homicide as possibly being self-defense, and no arrests were made. As this is an open and ongoing investigation, no further details will be provided at this time.”

No one goes to the store thinking that their life will be put in danger by a violent stranger, and it is a shame that this scenario is increasingly possible.

But that’s the world as it is, and in this situation and many others, being armed and prepared pays huge dividends.

Without the apparent intended victim having a weapon in his vehicle, the outcome would likely have been strikingly different. But that man lived to see another day, and he is doubtlessly thankful for that and the fact that he was armed.
