Every gun enthusiast knows some states can be counted on to protect Second Amendment rights. Unfortunately, there are several others dominated by anti-gunners who want nothing more than to eradicate the freedom to keep and bear arms.
It comes as quite a surprise when Wyoming turns up on the latter list.
Eight state lawmakers seek to destroy a 2022 law that protects law-abiding citizens from infringements on their gun rights. The statute established penalties including up to one year in prison and a $2,000 fine for any state or local official who trampled on Second Amendment freedoms.
Some advocates praised the law as the best in the nation for safeguarding gun rights.
This apparently enraged opponents of these liberties. Eight legislators proposed House Bill 283, which would enact a new provision that ignores penalties for suppressing constitutional freedoms.
Erased would be the prohibition of any act, law, treaty, executive order, rule, or regulation “that infringes on or impedes the free exercise of individual rights guaranteed under the Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States.”
Advocacy group Gun Owners of America (GOA) issued an alert to its members. The organization asked, “Why do these eight legislators want to destroy a Wyoming law that many pro-gun outlets have called America’s best Second Amendment Protection Act?”
The GOA urged concerned citizens to contact the lawmakers and voice their displeasure with the proposal.
Besides public opposition drawn by gun rights groups, the saving grace is that Wyoming is traditionally a state that is grounded and protects the freedoms afforded by the Constitution.
However, one serious question remains: What motivated these eight legislators to remove the punishment for violating gun rights? Is it their intent to take such actions, and therefore, they seek to remove the possibility of suffering a legal penalty?
