A Virginia man early last Wednesday morning encountered what would be a dreadful situation for virtually anyone—a suspect attempting to break into his home around 2:30 a.m.
Gunshots rudely awakened the tranquil neighborhood, and then sirens, but the potentially deadly encounter had a positive outcome. The intended victim was armed, and this wholly altered the encounter.
The Fairfax County Police Department received a call that a man’s home was the target of a violent break-in attempt. The caller stayed on the line with authorities as first responders raced to the scene, but the suspect continued to attempt to force entry.
The homeowner, feeling that he was backed into a corner, opened fire.
The suspect was struck multiple times, and emergency personnel performed life-saving measures on the scene. The unidentified alleged intruder was transported to a local hospital with what were described as life-threatening injuries.
