Anti-gunners try to convince the people that the right to keep and bear arms is a threat to public safety and the cause of criminal violence.

Only, the facts loudly prove otherwise.

Police in Fairfax, Virginia, were called to a home in the wee hours of the morning Wednesday by a homeowner who reported that someone was attempting to break into his dwelling.

During the call, however, the alleged intruder apparently advanced on the homeowner, prompting him to open fire. The dispatcher heard the gunshots ring out as the resident had the good sense to secure his firearm while notifying authorities.

The suspect suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. He was transported to an area hospital where he was at last report listed in critical condition.

Investigators later discovered that the suspect attacked someone in a nearby home before targeting the residence where he was shot.

No injuries were reported to the homeowner or anyone else inside the house.

A neighbor a few houses down the street, identified as Rosario Decker by local media, said the break-in and shooting rattled her. “This is not making me feel secure in this area.”

Thankfully for the armed resident, Virginia has the Castle Doctrine in effect. This typically ensures that law-abiding citizens are justified in using force to defend themselves or their loved ones from a violent and immediate threat.

Even if a self-defense case goes to trial, judges and juries are generally sympathetic to those who protect themselves and their families from criminals.

And once again, anti-gunners’ arguments against the Second Amendment are refuted by the evidence. It is the right of every good citizen to take up arms to defend who and what is important to them, and that freedom must be protected from those who would strip it away.
