With the November midterms now just weeks away, forces on both sides of the gun control issue are digging deep into their pockets to get voters to their side.
On Wednesday, the National Rifle Association (NRA) announced its major campaign to oppose noted gun rights opponent and Texas Senate hopeful James Talarico (D). The country’s largest and oldest Second Amendment advocacy group wants to spotlight the candidate’s opposition to semi-automatic weapons and standard-capacity magazines.
It has an uphill climb.
NRA wants voters to uphold Second Amendment rights
The NRA spot leaves no doubt about how gun rights supporters should cast their ballots. “With control of the Senate up for grabs, Talarico sides with the most radical gun grabbers in Washington. Don’t be left defenseless. Vote like your rights depend on it.”
Despite strong opposition from Second Amendment supporters, Talarico consistently polls ahead of his counterpart, Republican Ken Paxton.
Obviously, voters face many major issues next month, but the lines could not be sharper in Texas for those who value the right to keep and bear arms. The NRA is counting on its message swaying the electorate to prioritize gun rights at the ballot box.
Before the NRA’s campaign, gun control supporters had outspent Second Amendment backers roughly 3-to-1 nationwide. Make no mistake: forces that would disarm law-abiding citizens will certainly counter the organization’s message.
Gun rights opponents are also spending ahead of midterms
In that vein, Everytown for Gun Safety also announced last week that it is pouring some $3 million into ad buys in state-level races in Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
In the weeks and days leading up to the pivotal election, voters should ignore posturing and sound bites and focus on where candidates truly stand.
Those seeking office have track records, and these must outweigh image makeovers that attempt to portray hopefuls as siding with the nation’s rich shooting and hunting heritage. The more gun rights organizations ignore the rhetoric and illuminate candidates’ actual positions, the more voters will be able to make informed choices and protect Second Amendment rights.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
