Tucson gun shops are the target of an apparent crime wave, and one proprietor took a simple but novel approach to protecting his inventory from the bad guys.
In recent days, Elite Guns and Ammo and SNG Tactical were both hit by suspects who rammed a vehicle through the storefronts and made off with goods they have no business possessing. John’s Guns and Ammo, located near Elite Guns and Ammo and the victim of yet another burglary four years ago, prepared for the real possibility of being next.
Owner John Petrush now parks his truck directly parallel to the front windows every night.
Existing security measures failed to protect other firearm dealers
Understand, the proprietor already has security cameras and stores his items nightly before closing. But there are no suspects in the two recent attacks on gun shops, and Petrush does not want to be the third.
Not to mention that the guilty party who previously hit his business was never identified. Adding injury to insult, Petrush was shot in the left armpit while attempting to defend his livelihood, and he still carries the bullet in his body.
The owner said a Tucson police officer suggested his new parking pattern as an extra layer of protection, and it should help. “It does, but knowing they didn’t use a vehicle the first time they robbed me, there’s still open areas.”
Don’t be shocked if anti-gunners blame the victims
Petrush believes that the perpetrators who rammed the firearm businesses recently will be caught.
“They’re always going to slip somewhere, whether it be a camera that catches them or just somebody walking by that’s seen something,” he told local media. “And if they come and say something, the likelihood is more so of them getting caught.”
It would hardly be surprising if anti-gun lawmakers use these burglaries as fodder to propose even more restrictive regulations on the gun shops. It defies logic, but that crowd is always ready to target law-abiding businesses while overlooking the criminals themselves.
There is no word on any suspects in the latest burglaries.
