Georgia has about three times as many Baptist churches as Dollar General stores, but the budget outlets are rapidly closing the gap, as any resident can attest.
In a Valdosta location Thursday afternoon, an armed shopper became a hero when he opened fire on a suspect allegedly striking two female victims.

According to police reports, a 28-year-old bystander witnessed Tevin Jay Love, 32, assaulting his girlfriend and her teenage daughter in the store. As anyone on social media can confirm, these incidents too often show how people just go about their business or, worse, grab their phones to record.
Not this man.
When he saw Love allegedly striking a woman in the head, the hero drew his firearm. The suspect, according to the Valdosta Police Department, charged the Good Samaritan in what could have been a fatal mistake, punching the man before taking a bullet.
Love suffered a gunshot wound to the torso but survived.
Outcome could have been far worse for suspect
Responding officers found another witness holding the suspect on the ground outside of the Dollar General, and first aid was rendered before he was transported to a local hospital. At the last report, Love was listed in stable condition.
His girlfriend was treated and released, and there is no word on injuries to the daughter who attempted to intervene only to be struck as well.
The foolishness of charging an armed defender cannot be overstated, and logic says that the presence of the firearm should be enough to end a criminal attack. Should be.
That’s why it’s important to recognize that if you draw a weapon intending to stop a violent situation, you must be prepared to use it. A South Georgia shopper understood this concept, and it was a loaded firearm that did the job.
