Knocking on a person’s door, even an ex-domestic partner, can be interpreted in several different ways and is not an obvious sign of dangerous intent.
The same doesn’t apply to climbing outside of an apartment building, scaling the balcony, and trying to enter through a window.
The person committing these actions erases any benefit of the doubt and must know that they are now a violent threat. With that status, the door is now wide open for the intended target to respond in any way available–including lethal force.
Suspect left no doubt of bad intentions
Tulsa investigators reported that a woman’s ex-boyfriend put himself in harm’s way last month when he first tried to enter her apartment through the front door but was turned away.
He then allegedly scaled her balcony and again attempted to get inside. Her current boyfriend warned him to stop, but when the suspect persisted, the defender fired one shot.
The suspect went down on the balcony with a leg wound, and that’s where responding officers found him on arrival. They immediately applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding before paramedics came and took him to a hospital.
When he is released, the ex-boyfriend faces a Tulsa County charge of first-degree burglary. The occupants, including a child, were unharmed.
Residents escaped unharmed thanks to ready firearm
As self-defense cases go, this incident appears to be open and shut. The ex’s attempts to enter through the front door were rebuffed and witnesses said he then tried to force his way inside by climbing the balcony and trying a window.
Any chance of a believable story that does not show him to be the aggressor just flew out of the window. At that point, certainly in Oklahoma, the resident is entitled to an enormous amount of latitude in deciding how to defend life and property.
The suspect is fortunate to be alive today.
There’s no better way to show your patriotism than with merch that speaks before you do.
Defend America is more than a name, it’s a stand for freedom, resilience, and the values this country was built on. Every tee, hat, and mug is a symbol of unapologetic pride. Wear it loud, wear it proud, and let the world know: freedom isn’t negotiable.
